Xueyan' Guzheng Odyssey
Xueyan Chen is an award-winning professional Guzheng musician holding both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Guzheng Performance, graduating with highest distinction from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in 2017.
She has presented numerous recitals and performed at prestigious events worldwide. In 2023, she premiered a cross-cultural collaboration with the Didgeridoo, creating an innovative dialogue between Chinese tradition and Indigenous Australian music. Renowned for her ability to adapt diverse musical styles and collaborate across traditions, Xueyan continues to expand the expressive possibilities of the Guzheng.
Her notable appearances include serving as Guzheng soloist in the 2025 Australian tour of Avatar: The Last Airbender Live in Concert. She performed with the China National Traditional Orchestra at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2017. She has been invited to perform in the UK, Australia, Singapore, Japan and other locations.
As an educator, Chen serves as Director of the Western Australia Guzheng Academy and Secretary of the WA Chinese and Cultural Institute. She has also established and developed Guzheng programs at Christ Church Grammar School (CCGS), Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC), and Oberthur Primary School, fostering the next generation of Guzheng musicians.
